Black History Walks Vol 1, Pollards Hill library

Thursday 9th November 5.30pm

A dynamic introduction to Black History Walks Volume 1, with Tony Warner of Black History Walks. This presentation highlights some of the themes included in the book, which features a unique illustration of Black history and experiences.

Tony  founded black history walking tours in the St Pauls, Trafalgar Square, Notting Hill, Soho and Elephant and Castle areas in 2007. The walks are designed to uncover the 3,500 years of Black history in London and are popular with locals and overseas students. They have  been featured on BBC, CNN, Arise TV, Press TV, ITV, Chanel 4, The Guardian and written and presented documentaries for Teachers TV.

The Way Wive Wordz series created by Dr Michelle Asantewa brings you readings, presentations and storytelling that celebrate creative expression, identity and community engagement which embed African heritage and experiences.

The children talk about it for a long time afterwards

I would really like to book two black history walk dates around St Pauls and the Barbican for our two year 6 classes. We have done them for the last two years and the children always learn such a lot and talk about it for a long time afterwards.

I cannot recommend BHW highly enough for a school visit

His insight and in-depth knowledge of Notting Hill combined with his well-pitched and flexible delivery meant our students were fully engaged for three full hours, which is some feat! They loved the many jokes and links to their own music tastes, and I am confident that they will retain more knowledge for the final exam thanks to his input. I have rebooked for next year.
